Chinese nationals who come to Nepal on tourist visas have been found working illegally. Law only permits foreign nationals to work in Nepal, once they avail work permits. However, it has been revealed that most of the Chinese are working on tourist visas without a work permit, which is illegal.

Those who work illegally in this way are found to be in reputed companies including Vibo Mobile. During the lockdown, some Chinese citizens had protested demanding to be allowed to return to China. Although all the protesters came on tourist visas, many were working for various companies in Nepal.

Nepal police had arrested 47 protesters and registered a case of abuse against four of them.  According to Sushil Kumar Yadav, spokesperson of the Kathmandu Metropolitan Police, the court had ordered to release the four accused on Rs 10,000 bail. He said that all of them have been handed over to the Chinese embassy.

He said that Immigration Department would investigate if any foreign national is working in Nepal without work permit. 'At that time police had only filed a case of misconduct against the police' he said.
